Spring Break: Francis Marion National Forest
This trip has closed
One of our trips this upcoming Spring Break is to the beautiful Francis Marion National Park. This area is situated along the Intercoastal Waterway of South Carolina and just north of historic Charleston. We will be doing trail restoration of this forested area that is still recovering after it was nearly destroyed by Hurricane Hugo in 1989. In addition to trailwork, we’ll be doing some kayaking in the area along the Blackwater rivers of the national forest. This unique area can be recognized from the popular film “The Patriot”, and the forest itself is named after the revolutionary war hero Francis Marion, also known as the “Swamp Fox”. A visit to this swampy wonderland will be a great break from school and an excellent opportunity to give back to an absolutely gorgeous natural area. In addition, this trip would be a few days shorter than the break to ensure that participants have a weekend to catch up on work.
